(all pictures are from FS2004)

The latest terminal at Gothenburg City
Airport seen from apron. This texture quality can be found on almost every
building in the scenery - as close to a real photo you can get
Säve airport close to Gothenburg was built 1940 back in the times of WorldWar II and got the name F9 Göta Wing (Göta flygflottilj). It was at that time part of the defense of the western part of Sweden and of the big and important harbor in Gothenburg. But back in the 1960-ies a discussion about the cost of the defense was started (Sweden had at that time one of the biggest air forces in the world) and as a result F9 was closed in 1969 as the first in a long row of our military airbases. At the same time the 2nd helicopter division moved in and that is the only small military operation that still is left at Säve. But back in the active period some very interesting projects took place here. Already 1942 a first subterranean bunker for the aircraft was excavated inside the rocky hill under the control tower. It was the first of its kind in the world and was followed of a second bigger one in the hill at the southern military apron. This one was done to withstand also a hit from a nuclear bomb. On the 21st of March 2003 the Defense Ministry took the decision to de-classify "Nya Berget", the main subterranean aircraft bunker and in December 2003 an official letter was sent from the Swedish Central Board of National Antiquities (Riksantikvarieämbetet) stating that the entire Säve airbase will be designated a National Heritage site. Most of the buildings from the time are still there in their old shape (because the airbase has not been used since 1969) and which you will find also in our scenery where at least all buildings at the military apron and around the control tower are rendered with sharp and detailed photo textures.
The bunker 'Nya berget' - which has all the original equipment still there- is just now under transformation into a large museum project called AEROSEUM. Since the spring of 1999, the Aeroseum Foundation has been committed to preserving the Swedish Royal Air Force bunkers at Säve airfield. The site consists of the two old rock shelters. The first, measuring 8,000 square meters, was completed in 1942. The second called 'Nya Berget' was built in the early 1950s and measures 22,000 sqm nearly 30 meters below ground. AEROSEUM is part of the national cultural heritage and as such, is designated as a cultural memorial and is owned by the State. The Swedish Defense Ministry handed over the site on January 1st, 2003. This cultural site will show the history and development of aviation from Icarus to contemporary fixed and rotary wing flight, civilian and military, Swedish and international. AEROSEUM aims to provide a centre for experiencing flying, so you can enjoy the atmosphere and feel of aircraft with all your senses. AEROSEUM is to be opened on May 15th, 2005, the fiftieth anniversary of the original site's inauguration by King Gustav VI Adolf. The present King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf will attend to re-dedicate the site.
The civilian life of Säve airport goes back to 1977 when the main airport at nearby Torslanda was closed and much of the common air traffic there was moved to Säve. Already 1976 the city authorities in Gothenburg had prepared for that by building taxi ways and a civilian terminal, aprons etc at the western part of the airport area. Airport management was taken over by a separate company made as a joint venture of some local big companies and the city itself. This was the first airport in Sweden that was managed in that way. The official inauguration was in June 1979. Very soon this airport grow to one of the bigger ones in the country concerning the amount of flight movements. You will find here all sorts of operations: flight schools, police helicopters, ambulance flying, coast guard, freight- taxi- and business flying, which all contribute to that large figure. In 1984 the airport company started to adapt the airport to the demands of the heavier type of air traffic. The runway was made longer, taxiways were made broader, new hangars were built and the apron equipment was adapted to bigger aircraft. In year 2000 the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration (LFV) joined the company that manages the airport (after having bought the whole civilian part from the military authorities) and owns now 40% of that company together with Volvo 40% and the city of Gothenburg 20%. At the same time the airport changed name to GÖTEBORG CITY AIRPORT which is the official name today.
The scenery covers both the ex-military part and the civilian part in very close detail, where all buildings are included and rendered with sharp photo textures.
In this package two more airports are added - ESMX Växjö/Kronoberg and ESKN Stockholm/Skavsta - the latter is by the way also an ex-military airport plus the main Scandinavian hub for Ryanair. You will by this get the two biggest Ryanair airports in Sweden.
The package is compatible with FS2004/FS2002.
