  News from our design group

Times goes fast and it is suddenly autumn after a long and warm summer with a longer than usual vacation for all of us in the Swedflight group. We decided to take a small brake in the waiting for the the FsX simulator, at least until the beta versions arrived late in the summer. Now the sharp version has arrived too and we know better what lies before us regarding the needed changes for our sceneries.

Before the release version of FsX arrived we couldn't test all features and now after a few days of hard testing we know that we still have some work to do with quite many details in the scenery. We are known for a high quality of our products and will of course try to build also the FsX version to the same high standard as before.

While the Bromma scenery is built with FsX in mind and programmed in XML code from the very beginning, this is not the fact with the older sceneries that are built around the old Scasm-code. A lot of our proprietary features are not compatible at all with the new technique and they are not very easy to change either, at least as we look at it today. So don't expect a quick and easy fix there. We must find new solutions for a lot of those goodies - probably demanding a complete rebuild of all airports that will end up in totally new and revised versions of the existing packages.

But you can look forward to a totally new Bromma scenery later on - when we have solved the remaining problems. Take a look now and then at our web site where we will keep you informed about our progress. The Stockholm/Bromma scenery is found HERE.   Read more about the FsX compatibility problems HERE.

First look of the new Pack #2

The big revision of Pack #2 is going on at full speed (no delivery time is decided yet) and you can now have a first glance at the new look of the scenery. Nothing will be kept from the old scenery of Stockholm/Bromma airport and the photo scenery of Stockholm city. The latter will now be mesh following with new 3D objects in the city and the airport scenery is made totally new from the ground. It will cover almost every important building with fresh photo textures from every surface of the objects.

You can have a first look of the ongoing project HERE (please note that a lot of important details are still missing everywhere).

Bromma airport was opened May 23, 1936 and it is therefore 70 year since the inauguration.

  Authentic day and night textures

One of the not so common features found in all our sceneries are the extensive use of photo textures made from the corresponding authentic photos shot both in day and night time at the airports. Thanks to those textures you get automatically an unprecedented realism from all the light and shadows and small details found in the pictures. To show the nice effects from all this, a new series of pictures are uploaded to the Stockholm-Arlanda section. Those of you that already are users of that scenery may here found some new details in those parts of the scenery which you maybe seldom visit, e.g. the Landside area that has got as much details as the Airside part. If you are interested to look at the pictures they are found here: Stockholm-Arlanda ESSA.

  One more airport

The small but beautifully located airport at Arbrå (ESUB), in the middle of the province of Hälsingland, has been added to our Freeware section. There you can also see how nicely some extra add-ons can enhance the default scenery and give a very good realistic look to the surroundings. New versions of the files from Dec 24 are also uploaded with enclosed AFCAD2 files that give you exact start locations for all fields and the proper name for ESTT that is Vellinge/Söderslätt and nothing else.

December 24, 2005

We want to wish all our friends and users of our sceneries a Joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year 2006

Two small airports have been uploaded to our Freeware section. They are located close to each other in the southern part of Sweden and can easily be used as VFR fields especially if you are using some of the popular Roads/Water add-ons that give you very exactly drawn roads, lakes and shorelines. The airports are ESTO Tomelilla and the completely new ESTT Vellinge/Söderslätt. This field has been moved in the real world for the third time and has got a new ID this time. The former name was ESMR Trelleborg/Maglarp (please read the installation advice carefully, otherwise you will get a collision in the simulator with this ex-field). You will find these two new airports in the Freeware section.

Scenery Pack # 1 version 2 - update of the AI files

Some of you may have experienced that there are some misalignments in the AI files in the new package. New version is uploaded in the ADD-ONS section. Note the two versions of the files, please download the proper one for version 2. Note also that all our AI files are just basic ones that can be refined and rebuilt by the interested user to suit the individual requirements.

  Scenery Pack # 1 version 2 - now released

Version 2 of Scenery Pack #1 containing ESSA Stockholm/Arlanda, ESGG Gothenburg/Landvetter and ESMS Malmoe/Sturup is now released. The files and updates for version 1 will at the same time be discontinued. Former buyers of the complete version 1 of Pack #1 will get a discounted price (see Airports and our page at SimMarket) This offer is valid for customers after July 1, 2002 which is the limit for the custumer database at SimMarket.

The new version is remade almost from the ground and up with a lot of even more exact details, higher precision in the line system (with smooth curves and double edge lines everywhere) and with new, sharp high definition textures also in the night version in large parts of the scenery. A new feature is also the very big Landclass area that covers Gothenburg and all the surroundings, including part of the archipelago and the two airports ESGG and ESGP. Around Arlanda you will find the approach area covered with a high definition real photo scenery giving the airport a stunning and very realistic look.

Scenery Pack #1 in a new enhanced version

Swedflight announces a vastly renewed Swedflight Pro Scenery Pack #1 for
ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda, ESGG Gothenburg-Landvetter and ESMS Malmoe-Sturup. This scenery pack will, among other things, feature fully photo real surroundings at ESSA. VTP terrain and land class that includes the whole Gothenburg and Stockholm areas are also included.

All three airports have got brand new super crisp day and night textures, new extremely smooth enhanced taxi lines, also frame rates are further improved. New buildings and aprons have also been added, new twy signs, clearance hold lights, new 3D approach lights at ESMS (now the recently installed Barette-CL).

More details and screenshots are found HERE. Release is expected around end of April.

Small error corrected in Pack #4

Unfortunately one of the AFCAD2 files was missing in the package, the file for ESGP. That missing file can now be downloaded on our ADD-ONS page (like the AFCAD2 files for our other airports). In the new sales package SWE-pack4B it is now included.

Scenery Pack #4 is now released

The package contains the two RYANAIR Swedish hubs, Stockholm/Skavsta  and Gothenburg/Save airports together with Vaxjo/Kronoberg airport.

Emphasis is not only on the creation of a perfect copy of the real thing but also on all surroundings. One example, Gothenburg/Save (ESGP) is a medium sized airport beautifully located on the Hisingen Island in Gothenburg. To give this airport a suitable surrounding we not only made a brand new LandClass, corrected all lakes and shorelines that exist between Landvetter to Save, but also we recreated a large piece of the famous Gothenburg archipelago. This makes Save a fabulous companion with our previously released Gothenburg/Landvetter (Pack #1). The two together will give you stunning visual scenery for Gothenburg and its surroundings.

Stockholm/Skavsta (ESKN) was treated in the very similar way and we refined all lakes, shorelines and roads in a vast area around the city of Nykoping and the airport.

Vaxjo/Kronoberg (ESMX) is another example with its great location by a very large lake in southern Sweden. The all new LandClass, new shores and roads make the approach look like that of its real life counterpart.

Needless to mention that every building or the airports are present as well as meticulously photo textures with the super sharp photos that have become a trademark of Swedflight. Even the bulk of night textures are made from real night photographs - not 'darkened' daytime variants.

Those of you that have bought the perfect addition for all Scandinavian VFR flyers - Scandinavian Roads/Waters by R.Taburet - will get exact advice how to install our scenery pack 4 together with that addon, just read carefully the enclosed activation PDF file.

The Airport Handbook for the package and the AI-files for FS2002 can be downloaded here on our site later on when they are ready. The AI files for FS2004 are automatically installed with the airports.

Update for the new version of Copenhagen/Kastrup

After the release of the new version of EKCH Copenhagen/Kastrup we have got a lot of requests for the aprons E, NE and T that are not included in the present file. We planned to add them in a later version, but the interest for them is apparently very big and therefore we have already made a small update that now includes also those aprons on which you can find additionally 31 more stands, preferably used by smaller aircraft like turboprops. On the three aprons you will find taxi lines, aircraft stand numbers, docking guidance systems (where applicable) and light masts.

The update is today included in the official version of EKCH and the distribution to you that have already bought the scenery has been arranged by direct email.

  New version of Copenhagen/Kastrup released

This is an enhanced payware version of our previous “bonus” EKCH. The NE airport areas are not depicted in full as this would harm the frame rates too much for many users on this very large and complex airport. In its present shape however the frame rates will be fully acceptable at all stages of approach and landing as well as taxiing. Pictures from the new version can be seen here: EKCH

If you already possess the discontinued “bonus” EKCH the difference with its latest version will be the full APIS docking guidance system at all gates, improved frame rate, 3D approach lights, smoother taxiway lines, reworked Domestic Apron and added Dash-8 apron.

Pack 4 with the airports ESGP (Gothenburg/Save), ESKN (Stockholm/Skavsta) and ESMX (Vaxjo/Kronoberg) is now under testing and will be released in the very near future.

January 23, 2005

bullet

 Night version

The night version of Skavsta is now ready as can be seen in some new pictures. All parts of the airport are equipped with real night photos shot at Skavsta and used in the scenery, resulting in a very pronounced and uncommon realism in a product like this.

When Pack4 is released it will also be compatible with the new add-on Scandinavian Roads and Scandinavian Waters from Raimondo Taburet, that adds ALL roads within Scandinavia to FS9 as well as better shorelines/lakes/rivers - a highly recommended package for the dedicated VFR user. A document will be enclosed showing the easy installation changes that must be done to make our packages working well together.

New screen shots from both ESGP Säve and ESKN Skavsta have been uploaded, showing the latest additions - among them the missing old terminal at Skavsta that has caused us so much trouble. These will be the last pictures before the release.

Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year

We are now having Holiday for a couple of weeks but will finalize Pack 4 during that time and the publishing will be in the beginning of the new year. We will also thank all our customers and friends for their positive support that makes it possible to go on building these Swedish airport scenerys with high precision and realistic details.

ESGP in Pack 4

In the waiting for the finetuning and finalization of Pack 4 we have uploaded some fresh screen shots from Gothenburg City Airport (Säve) - one of the airports in the coming package. There you can study the very crisp and realistic photo textures found on almost every building. Photos are shot again recently to catch the latest additions and details done at the real airport since our last visit there. Look at those pictures HERE.

Finalization of Pack 4

The remaining pictures of the new terminal at Skavsta (that was inaugurated on October 15) were shot today which means that the job to make the scenery ready can finally be started. At the same time we got access to the construction drawings for that complicated building which will help us to make it with good realism and also hopefully help us to build the remaining parts of the terminal in a short time. Fresh pictures from this construction will be realeased soon at the ESKN page. As mentioned on Oct 15 the rest of the package is ready, we have only waited for these last pictures of the terminal.

Finalization of Pack 4

Many of our old and new customers may wonder why it has taken a quite long time to release our Pack 4 of Swedish airports. One of the airports in the package - Stockholm/Skavsta (ESKN) - has during the last year gone through a big reconstruction and enlargement process. A totally new terminal has been built there, making it impossible for us to do any useful texture job until now. Today the new terminal was inaugurated officially and we will therefore in the coming weeks shoot the final pics needed to make the big terminal ready also in our version. The two other airports (Gothenburg/Säve and Växjö/Kronoberg) are already finished so the finalization of the pack is not too far away if everything goes well.

You can now look at the first pics from ESGP Gothenburg/Säve that will be one of the airports included in the coming Scenery Pack #4. More pictures from the LandClass scenery under construction will be shown a little later. Preview pictures from the third airport in the package ESKN Stockholm/Skavsta will also be uploaded later during the week. Look at the pictures from ESGP here.

The traffic volume on our server

We are glad that our scenery files are very popular around the world but at the same time this is causing us some problems for the moment. The MegaUpdate for each Scenery Pack is almost as big as a full scenery. This fact plus some apparent misuse of the free download service has resulted in a heavy traffic volume on our server that will end up in a great cost for us if this is not changed. The large bonus scenery file of EKCH is another reason for this. To get a fast cure for the mentioned problems the following measures will be undertaken:

1. The MegaUpdate files are moved to SimMarket where a modest fee will be charged to cover the cost for the downloading and handling
2. The bonus scenery of EKCH is discontinued and will after a full revision appear as a separate standard Scenery Pack.

By no means will this affect any bug patches those will, if needed even in the future be available free on our website. The only difference is that our Scenery Packs no longer will be upgraded free of charge.

We hope that this will lessen the burden on our server so that we can go on and make Swedish PRO scenerys also in the future. Just contact us if these new plans will cause some unforeseen problems for you.

Scenery of ESUP Pajala released

The scenery of ESUP Pajala airport is now released. We have made it as a freeware showing most of our proprietary technique that is also used in our bigger payware projects. Here you can find the smooth taxi lines with double edge lines, the 3D lights of all sorts - approach lights, taxi lights, RGL lights, threshold lights and now also working 3D PAPI lights. And of course the ultra sharp textures on all buildings and other objects, made from photos shot in every corner of the airport.  To correct for the misaligned Torne River and the accompaning road on the shore in the default scenery we had to make a LandClass scenery covering about totally 60 km of the area west and east of the airport. In that scenery you will now find a 'real' river with the islands that you also can see in reality just beside of the runway.

Download the scenery HERE - the Airport Handbook can also be downloaded separately in the Handbooks section.

What is happening?

During the summer vacation a lot is still going on at Swedflight. The promised demo scenery of Pajala airport will be released any day now. Pack 4 is still under construction - ESMX Växjö and ESKN Skavsta are completed but we have waited for a good opportunity to get photo material also from the ex-military part at ESGP Göteborg/Säve airport thereby including the whole area for the first time. That photo job is just finished and now the ex-military side will be constructed before the whole package will be launched later after the summer.

In the meantime we have started a big update process at ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda, our most popular airport. That job includes a totally new runway and taxiway system with all lines drawn according to latest photos and maps. A lot of additions will also be included that reflect the changes done in reality since release 1 (the complete Schengen terminal - Pier F with all gates added) plus additions at terminal 3. Terminal 2 is reconstructed completely and on all mentioned objects new textures are added, made from fresh pictures shot lately. All this will result in a new (free) version of ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda later this autumn.

Free demo of Pajala airport soon ready

Fresh screen shots from the coming free demo of Pajala airport can be found here. The scenery project is almost finished, still missing is the semi photo landscape that will surround the area close to the airport. This is the most detailed scenery project we have done so far, an unusually complete photo material has made it possible to include almost every interesting object inside the airport area, down to the smallest electrical box. Even the runway is handmade with all its lights and lines.

Mixed news

The work with coming pack 4 is going on as planned even if the speed is slower than normal because of some illness in the group. Pictures from ESKN Skavsta will soon be published. The demo airport ESUP Pajala will be a lot more detailed than planned because of an unexpected bunch of good pictures that arrived from there, making it the most detailed airport in our series, containing some very realistic and detailed small objects. Look for new screen shots soon.  In our Links section we have included an extremely good satellite site showing weather from the whole world, a site than can be highly recommended.   We also will recommend you all to bookmark our own site again thereby activating a new small icon in your address field. TV mast package released plus additions in the MegaUpdates

1. The package with 56 Swedish TV and radio masts is now released. This is a much enlarged and enhanced version of the package that existed before for FS2000. The visibility of the masts is now 22 km and the fast flashing lights can also be seen from that distance. A PDF file is enclosed where the installation is described together with a coordinate table which makes it possible to find all these masts. We can recommend a sightseeing tour around the country looking for them - many of the masts are placed at really beautiful spots, for example the masts at Kiruna, Gällivare, Arvidsjaur, Storuman, Lycksele, Strömsund, Östersund, Sveg, Sollefteå, Mora and Sunne - just to name a few of the 56 masts. This will also take you to corners of the country where you probably seldom are. So therefore plan a few VFR flights and make some astonishing discoveries! Download the files here: FREEWARE . The package can be used in FS2002 and FS2004.

2. Some new changes have also been made in the latest MegaUpdates 1 and 2 where a new model of fast RGL lights have been added at ESSA, ESMS, ESGJ and ESMK - plus new holding lines. Files available here: UPDATES

Preview from coming free package of 56 Swedish TV masts

Back in the days of FS2000 we had a small package of Swedish TV masts made on requests from many of our users. Unfortunately the visibility of such objects was very short in that simulator, which made the use of the masts as landmarks in VFR flying very limited. This is fixed now and we have therefore made a complete package of all bigger TV masts in the country from Kiruna in the North to Hörby in Skåne.

The new masts can now be seen from about 22  km distance which seems to be the limit in FS2002/FS2004. They are all equipped with high intensity flashing white lights and red obstacle lights with lower intensity. And they are all placed at the exact coordinates from the reality, a table is enclosed in the coming package making it easy to find them. Release will be soon and you can already look at some pictures from the masts HERE.

Preview of coming free demo scenery of Pajala airport

The promised scenery of Pajala airport will be released as a free demo for the airports from Swedflight. This is the latest built airport in Sweden with an interesting history and with a location far above the Arctic Circle.
Even if this is a small airport it will contain some of the proprietary technique used also in our latest and coming payware scenerys - like the extremely smooth taxi lines with double edge lines, 3D taxi lights and 3D approach lights. MegaUpdate for ESGG and ESMS released

The remaining part of the big update for Pack1 is now released. It contains all the additions made for ESGG and ESMS from version 1 until now.

The biggest changes are made at ESMS Malmö/Sturup. The whole ground scenery there is remade with even more precision than before and where a lot of new technique is used and new features added. To name some of them: new 3D taxi lights, new RGL lights (made as copies of the originals), working holding lights and clearance bars.

And the best of all - in both scenerys (like in the other MegaUpdates) you can enjoy a greatly enhanced frame rate thanks to a new method of optimizing.

ESGG will like ESSA later on be updated once more with new smooth taxi lines and all the other new features mentioned above - a job that will take some more time.

Two more MegaUpdates released

In the continuous updating process of our scenery packs two more updates are released today. We call them MegaUpdates because they contain all corrections and additions made since version 1. Together with the latest features added you also get ALL the older ones in case you have missed some of the many updates done.

The greatest feature in these versions is the much enhanced frame rate, thanks to a new optimization method. A lot of other small additions are also done at all airports. Pack1 is divided in two separate update files, one for ESSA and another for ESGG and ESMS, thus correlating to the two sub packages sold. The ESSA version is released today but you will have to wait some more days for the other one. The ESSA scenery will be updated in two stages, this is the first one that already here gives you a much better frame rate. The second one (released later this spring) will give you a totally new ground scenery that contains a complete line system where nothing is omitted, taxi lines with smooth curves, a totally new taxi light system - to name some of the features you can look forward to and that will hopefully give you better frame rate even more.

The MegaUpdate for Pack3 gives you also the enhanced frame rate mentioned above. New winter textures are added for the runways and taxiways (functioning also in FS2002) and the 3D taxi lights are changed to the new model with low intensity lamps.

A small correction has been done to the green dots for the taxi lines which are now included in the latest version of the bonus package plus available as a separate small update for those of you that have already downloaded the full version. New stunning winter textures are also added on the runways and taxi ways.

New version of EKCH - Copenhagen/Kastrup

A new version of this popular bonus airport has been compiled. We have succeeded to reoptimize the whole scenery with a big gain in frame rate as a great benefit. As a nice bonus a new feature is also included - the red stop lights at the CAT I holdings are now switched off when you are approaching them, thereby imitating the reality a little more even if this function is handled by the tower in real life.

This version replaces both the original one and the former update because too much is changed to publish it simply as a new update. Please read the text about the graphics and display settings in the end of the installation.

As usual the program will search for an earlier valid installation of one of our payware scenerys to be able to install.

(Those of you that downloaded the first version of this new file will miss 3 holding lines that are added there now, please download it again if you want a complete and proper version - sorry folks for the inconvenience)

New updates for all airports are now published (some are combined with the update 0308 to make it simpler to manage). The files are collected together in one section and can be downloaded HERE. The main issues in the new updates are addition of the new 3D ICAO CAT I/II approach lights at most of the airports and correction of the double ILS signals that appeared in FS2004. The updates from August (also included) can be read about in the UPDATES section.

Update for Pack #3 released

The release of the new AFCAD2 program during our own release of Pack #3 made it impossible to include the corrections for the AI-traffic for our three new airports in the delivered package. Work is therefore going on now to make them fully compatible with  the AI-traffic in FS2004 -  this is a big job that will take some weeks because all 10 of our airports are affected, the old files for the AI traffic in FS2002 were suddenly made totally obsolete.

The much smaller job to correct the runway levels specifically in Pack#3 to suit the AI-traffic is now ready and the file can be downloaded from November 7th. It contains also some corrections for the terminal buildings and some missing winter textures. Download it in the Updates section.

Airport Handbooks free for downloading

We have decided not to include the much appreciated Airport Handbooks in the packages from now on. Partly to make the files smaller but most of all to make the manuals available to all our visitors, not only to the buyers of our scenery packs. Instead they are now available for downloading on our website. These manuals contain beside of the data for each airport also a sometimes very extensive part with historical data from the birth of the airport until today. Those of you that are historically interested may find this part enjoying to read - a part full of data not so easy to find elsewhere. You can download the manuals in a new section of our website: Handbooks

Coming add-on to SwedflightPro package #3

To make the new package #3 even more complete an add-on package will be released a little later (free of charge for registered users of Pack3). This will contain the following objects:

ESNU
- The rest of the buildings for the flying club at the airport
- The new bridge over the Ume River close to the airport
- The large hospital buildings
- Some of the high buildings inside the city

ESPA

A big update for the existing packages #1, #2 is released today - free of charge for our customers.  Beside of a lot of additions and revisions this update will make the scenerys much more compatible with the new simulator FS2004. What is said down here about the AI traffic in FS2004 is still valid. According to Lee Swordy (the author of AFCAD) a new improved version may not be available until October. After that we will provide you with new  compatible AI files supporting all our airports in FS2004. This update is also compatible with the older FS2002 and will vastly improve the scenerys there. Get the new files HERE.

All our coming scenerys are now tested with beta versions of FS2004 and the new packages will be almost totally compatible with the new simulator. The older packages #1, #2 and the bonus scenery of Copenhagen/Kastrup will also relatively soon be upgraded to FS2004 compatibility - free of charge for our customers. 'Almost' means that the AI system in FS2004 is totally revised and we have to wait for a new version of AFCAD from Lee Swordy before we and other scenery makers can produce compatible AI files for FS2004. Such a version may hopefully be available before our packages are launched.

The interest for the bonus scenery of EKCH Copenhagen/Kastrup has been very big and therefore we will extend this offering also after 1st of May.

In the original version of the bonus scenery for EKCH, the horisontal visibility for certain objects like gates and apron lights were relatively short for frame rate reasons on slower computers. Those of you that have faster hardware may try our update version where the mentioned objects have much longer visibility which means that you can now see the the gates and lamps from longer distances. The main reason for this short visibility in the basic version is to give this very large scenery a truly flyable frame rate at all final approach sectors. You will find the update file here.

The new Runway 01R/19L at Stockholm-Arlanda will be opened for traffic on April 17th. A new patch file for the AI traffic there has been uploaded today which contains the additional data needed for the AI planes to behave properly. An update of the BGL files for ESSA will also be done very soon and that will include the OM, MM and DME transmitters for the new runway that are missing in the scenery today. (The ILS transmitters were included already in the first release.)  The new patch file is found in the Add on section.

bulletA new page has been added here containing links to the Swedish and Danish Civil Aviation Administration sites where you can download the latest versions of airport maps and charts for the airports in both countries. You will find the adresses in the section MAPS

Many users are interested in our coming projects. You will therefore find another new section here where we will keep you informed about our coming projects and ideas. Look now and then in  New projects for information about our future plans.

bulletLike many of us a lot of you don't read manuals :-) and if you haven't looked in the Airport Handbook for EKCH you may have missed the important link to the latest maps for Copenhagen Airport which you can download from the Danish Civil Aviation Administration. In total you will find there 38 PDF files with all maps needed, SID, STAR, parking maps and so on. The big maps covering the ground layout are in the files ADC and APDC if you are unsure what to download - (Browse there to Part3/AD2/EKCH):

bulletA perfect companion to our EKCH scenery - the Oresund bridge and the isle Saltholm, a freeware scenery by Henrik Brovell - is uploaded to our server. We recommend it wholeheartedly. Download it in our Bonus section.

bulletThe special version of EKCH Copenhagen is now released as a bonus for our customers that have purchased any of our payware scenerys before. The offer expires May 1st, 2003.

This bonus project started with the ambition to release a scenery with a very detailed runway and taxiway system but with only the most important buildings around the aprons. Now, after 6 month of intensive work, it has grown to a very big and full blown airport scenery - the most complete one of EKCH on the market - and where almost all buildings in the area called Kastrup North are included and with high quality real photo textures on all of them.

Download the Install file in the Bonus section. Those of you that are interested of airport maps for EKCH will find a download link in the comprehensive Airport Handbook.
